BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin on Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The dialogue concentrated on bolstering UAE-Germany collaboration across economic and developmental sectors. Additionally, the talks addressed regional and global issues, diplomacy, peace initiatives, and international security concerns. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

The officials explored avenues to deepen their strategic alliance and promote cooperation in various domains. Sheikh Abdullah characterized UAE-Germany ties as robust and enduring, emphasizing ongoing progress in partnership. He also highlighted their mutual dedication to building on earlier successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. The leaders shared perspectives on mutual interests and exchanged ideas on resolving crises via diplomatic means.

The extensive state visit introduced a new framework for bilateral relations. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the inaugural state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where both leaders unveiled a new Strategic Dialogue. This platform covers areas including security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate change, technology, digitalization, transport, environmental issues, culture, and education.

Enhanced strategic dialogue to expand bilateral ties

Both governments supported the establishment of a German-UAE Investment Council to boost engagement between the public and private sectors. They also welcomed the recommencement of the Joint Economic Committee alongside outcomes from a bilateral business forum. According to the joint declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment plan worth 40 billion euros for Germany was announced.

Economic collaboration further includes sectors such as energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint statement highlighted ongoing and upcoming projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for advanced data centers with an approximate capacity of one gigawatt. Both nations identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key components of their broader cooperation efforts.

Diplomacy and regional stability topics addressed by foreign ministers

During their Berlin discussions, the foreign ministers also reviewed regional and international developments. They emphasized the importance of stronger global efforts aimed at fostering enduring peace and stability, as well as safeguarding international security. The conversations included the role of diplomacy in crisis management, echoing themes raised during the state visit. The German government had previously listed Middle East peace and stability among the key topics for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, participated in the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their dialogue integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and developmental initiatives within a unified bilateral framework. Moreover, the state visit linked these discussions with formal channels for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaborations. These Berlin meetings represent the latest formal engagement in the longstanding UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2004.
