MUSCAT, OMAN / RankWire.AI / – Oman’s overall electricity output increased by 4.3% year-on-year up to August 2026, totaling 37,481.8 gigawatt-hours. During the same period in 2025, the figure was 35,935.3 GWh. Initial data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information indicated growth in several governorates. This rise contributed approximately 1,546.5 GWh to the national total during the first eight months. In August alone, production reached 5,743.9 GWh, up from 5,676.9 GWh in July.

Muscat Governorate experienced the most significant surge in electricity production, with a 204.8% increase compared to the previous year. Al Dakhiliyah followed with a growth of 44.1%, while Al Wusta saw an 8.4% rise. Meanwhile, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah each saw increases of 5.5%. Dhofar also demonstrated growth, with electricity output rising 4.6% from January to August. The data revealed a broad expansion across the majority of the regions included in the national statistics.
On the other hand, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah experienced a combined decline of 16.4% in electricity production. Musandam’s output was 376.0 GWh, showing little change from the same period in 2025. These regional figures highlight considerable variation in electricity growth across Oman during the reported months. The National Centre for Statistics and Information described these figures as preliminary. The data encompass electricity generation until the end of August 2026.
Net electricity output increases by 4.6%
Oman’s net electricity generation grew by 4.6% through August, reaching 36,463.9 GWh compared to 34,871.8 GWh in the same period of 2025. This measurement includes regional purchases made by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company. Muscat again led with a 204.4% increase in net production, while Al Dakhiliyah rose by 44.2%. Additionally, Al Wusta and Dhofar recorded gains of 9.1% and 7.6%, respectively. Overall, net electricity output increased by approximately 1,592.1 GWh year-on-year.
Furthermore, net production in North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah increased by 5.4%, whereas North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah saw a 16.6% decline. Musandam’s net electricity generation was 368.0 GWh, with no significant change from the previous year. These regional figures largely mirror the trends seen in total electricity production. Overall, national net output remained higher than in the first eight months of 2025.
Water output drops across Oman during the period
Oman’s water production declined by 3.5% through August 2026, totaling 330.65 million cubic metres, down from approximately 342.71 million cubic metres during the same eight months in 2025. Muscat experienced a 6.2% decrease, producing about 128.07 million cubic metres compared to roughly 136.57 million. Water output in other governorates fell by 3.4%, reaching about 149.90 million cubic metres from around 155.19 million in the same period last year.
Dhofar was the primary exception to the national water decline, with production rising 3.4% to approximately 52.68 million cubic metres from about 50.94 million in 2025. The latest utility data thus reveal contrasting national trends, with electricity generation increasing both in total and net figures, whereas water production overall remained below the levels seen in the first eight months of 2025.
