ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan petrol costs rose once more on October 6 after another daily revision in fuel rates. The price of petrol went up by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. Conversely, high-speed diesel decreased by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest change came after an October 3 decision that raised both key transport fuels. Initially, petrol was set at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol saw an increase of Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, while high-speed diesel added Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that this review reflected fluctuations in global fuel prices. International market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related expenses all contributed to the pricing calculation. These factors remain central to Pakistan’s fuel review process. The increase on October 3 served as the immediate baseline for the subsequent revision on October 6.
The decision on October 6 resulted in an Rs0.88 increase for petrol, raising the rate from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel reversed its prior gain and fell from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Comparing with October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, and diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government of Pakistan continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, while the corresponding amount on high-speed diesel is Rs100 per litre.
International Market Movements Drive Daily Fuel Price Adjustments
Since July, Pakistan has implemented a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the earlier weekly review schedule that began in March. This approach links domestic fuel prices directly to international market fluctuations and other relevant factors. Previously, fuel rates were typically reviewed over longer periods. The current system allows for separate daily adjustments for petrol and diesel, as demonstrated on October 6, when petrol rose while diesel decreased.
Despite recent increases, fuel prices remain below their peaks earlier this year. On April 3, petrol hit Rs458.41 per litre, and high-speed diesel reached Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, while diesel stood around Rs281. Before climbing, diesel was at that level. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel is Rs122.59 beneath its peak. Both fuels have significantly fallen from their maximum levels recorded in April.
Petrol Gains, Diesel Declines Post-October 3 Price Adjustment
Petrol is broadly used in private vehicles, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan. High-speed diesel primarily fuels heavy transport, power stations, and large generators. These two fuels thus cater to different segments of the country’s transportation and energy needs. Additionally, petrol and high-speed diesel are Pakistan’s leading petroleum revenue sources by sales volume. Recent price revisions have often caused these fuels to move in opposite directions. On October 3, both prices increased, but on October 6, petrol rose again while diesel fell.
For October 6, petrol now costs Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel is priced at Rs397.76. These rates replace the previous levels of Rs392.76 and Rs399.64 from October 3. Since that review, petrol has gained Rs0.88, whereas diesel has decreased by Rs1.88. The latest figures continue the pattern of frequent daily adjustments observed in October. Motorists and commercial users will face these revised rates during the current billing period.
